One more song!... Why this site exists... | |
|
The lights dim; a familiar electrical buzz hisses slightly from the speakers; five guys wiggle their way through the crowd of bar patrons up onto the stage... and so it begins. Thump, thump, thump, thump... CRUNCH! The pace quickens; the stage lights come up; the floor quivers with the bass; a puff of smoke effect sightly blurs the illuminated performers as they begin to bound around the stage, inviting the crowd to join them in their love of sound... Slowly, the corners where wallflowers grow begin to empty as the whole pub seems to gravitate toward the stage. The crowd cries out in unison when emplored by the band members to join their song. Heads bobbing up and down in rythem, feet tapping below them...friends and stangers look to each other and silently praise the performance as they jump up and down on impulse. The stage lights come down, and the band members hop off stage to have a drink with their audience before returning to the stage for the second set. A few hugs and ecstatic "You Rock!" exclaimations, and they are back up on stage to dizzy the crowd with music more. The band plays until just before the bar is ready to implore their patrons to leave... The crowd chants for "One more song!" With permission from the establishment, the band obliges the request. With a sigh, the crowd disperses into the night. This experience is brought to you by a local band enthusiast after having been to a Negative Space (www.negativespacerocks.com) concert at Fat Daddy's restraunt and pub. I have no affiliation with either the band or the club. |
If this sounds like an experience you would like to have your own memories of, PLEASE come out and support the area's local bands! There are over 100 bands in the York - Lancaster - Harrisburg - Baltimore area that need your support.
It's experiences such as the one described above that spurred me to build an informational website (www.thelab-pa.com) to encourage the growth of our music scene. I have posted links to existing band websites to make it easy to find out what they are all about, and to find concert schedule information. See, hear, and feel the intimacy and intensity of a small venue concert... Please, don't let yourself miss out on these great musicians! Instead of paying $40 a person to sit in a field in the summer sun and watch the band on stage through the eyes of a giant projection television, why not go to your local club and donate $5 in the form of a cover charge to support the music generated in your own back yard?
