Note: I have placed the page on which I announced the break-up of Julian Fist in the Archives.Dewey Beach Music Fest, September 27th-29th: http://www.deweybeachfest.com.
We (Jen, my co-conspirator, and I) arrived in Dewey Beach, DE around 10PM, after a scenic night-time tour of northern Delaware, and checked into our motel. (the pink and blue one, as I liketo recall it.)
As we headed out to pound the sidewalk, we turned the opposite direction of our intended destination (continuing the scenic tour theme of the weekend...) One of three obviously inebriated gentlemen, headed the direction we should have been travelling, stopped to greet Jen with an Roy Orbison-esque, "HEY, Baby!" Jen and I snickered to ourselves as two of the three appologized and moved on.
We passed a tiny little Irish pub with it's doors open. My feet kept moving, but my ears convinced my head to stay where it was (it was a rather amusing contortionistic move that I repeated several times this past weekend.) I tried my best to remember the name of the man standing near the door, guitar in hand, but I hadn't quite got the hang of remembering things yet.
I'd like to take a moment to say that EVERYONE in the area was utterly friendly and helpful. If life were like that all the time, I'd mistake my location for heaven. I asked some of the passers-by (whose names I again failed to catch) where the Rusty Rudder was. (Jen had not gotten the hang of being my short-term memory yet.) We grinned and turned around.
From every direction, there was music. It was like a dream. Everything was close together, so walking from performance to performance was not a problem. There was not a shop, bar, or restraunt that did not have live music pouring from its walls. Three blocks later, Jen and I arrived at the Rusty Rudder... (To Be Continued...)
Please feel free to post your opinions about shows you've been to in the Message Board. I love when people share them with everyone! Discussion is part of what makes a bunch of people looking in the same place a community rather than just people surfing the net.
Speaking of music communities...there are some major conference developments going on.
Coming up quickly will be the Millenium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA. February 13-16, 2003. Registration prices will increase as the conference draws near, so making plans to attend now is not a bad idea... Website:http://musicconference.net
.
And the IMC 2003, Independant Musicians Conference will take place in Philladelphia August 28th - 31st, 2003. I know that's a ways off, but registration deadlines for showcasing are coming up quickly, and you have the opportunity to have a say in how the conference is structured during the planning stages. See site for details: http://www.IMC2003.com.
