It's been a while since I last updated the site. Really, it's only been a week and a half or two, but it seems like ages. I've been out and about at some larger shows lately. Last weekend I had the opportunity to see a previously local band from a unique point of view. I'll only be kicking myself into the next century for leaving my "REAL" camera at home. But I had a good time soaking it all in anyway. (Hello to all the FOLers, [special thanks to Jimmy, Courtney, and Stephanie] ...and it still amazes me just how much a gentleman Shawn was when I got in his way.) btw, someone needs to remind me repeatedly to update the links page with the official Live website (http://www.friendsoflive.com) and the PAWebcasting link... any volunteers?

In other news....

Andrew Hellier of Rotoglow @ the Historic Blue Star, Lancaster, PA on June 28th.Julian Fist, Rotoglow, Margaret Heater, Malvado, Fidel, and Soveren will be taking a trip out to Downtime in New York City as part of an Unsung Hero Concert on Thursday, August 29th. A couple of the bands are planning bus/van trips to get there. Check with your favorite band for available seats and pricing.

I am about a month backlogged on photos, reviews, and rants, but I've taken a day off next week and plan to work on it then. For those of you who don't know, I work another job in "Real" life as well as keep the site going. I can only dream of the day that the site can support me as well as itself!

Keep looking for more reviews to be posted in the near future, though. Seems as though people want to hear opinions, and I'm more than ready to allow this site to be a forum for them. Please feel free to post your own opinions about shows you've been to in the Message Board. I love when people share them with everyone! Discussion is part of what makes a bunch of people looking in the same place a community rather than just people surfing the net.

Speaking of music communities...there are some major conference developments going on. First of all, there's the Dewey Beach Music Fest September 27th-29th in Delaware. I plan to attend. Check their site for details: http://www.deweybeachfest.com.

Coming up after that will be the Millenium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA. February 13-16, 2003. Website:http://musicconference.net .

And lastly, but certainly not least is the IMC 2003 Independant Musicians Conference in Philladelphia August 28th - 31st, 2003. I know that's a ways off, but registration deadlines for showcasing are coming up quickly, and you have the opportunity to have a say in how the conference is structured during the planning stages. See site for details: http://www.IMC2003.com.

ABOUT THE DIRECTION AND VISION FOR THELab.... There will be a slight focus change for TheLab in the near future as well. So far, I have concentrated my efforts on showing the local area that there really is a force to be reconned with in the music scene around here. I'm beginning to see the bands that opened my eyes begin to ride away to other states to follow their dreams. I feel it's time to start working more behind the scenes to build the relationships needed to help musicians get going and find their place outside of the local scene, as much as my selfish nature wants to coddle the bands here at home in the local music bassinet. Keep watching and you should see, if I am doing things right, a lot of your next door neighbors heading off to New York or California...or even Europe to spread their music as far as the globe will allow. I plan on making my dream happen.... and my dream is that the dreams of the underrated bands I come in contact with come true.

I'd also like to state my opinion right here that things like this should be done with a large degree of respect and class. I will never allow this site to become a catch-all for things unrelated to the advancement of arts and culture.

I once saw a woman speak about how creativity is the one thing that every human being has been blessed with. She spoke about how it's not just music, photography, theatre, drawing, sculpture, etc. It can be creativity in anything that a person does. It could be that you're an accountant who has found a more efficient way to balance the books. It could be that you're a landscaper who found that angling the blade of a lawn mower provides a better cut on the grass. It could be that you've found adding two soaps together creates a longer-lasting bubble. It doesn't really matter where that creativity lies... As long as you begin to see and appreciate it as creativity, life will become just a little less dull, and a little more worth living day to day.

I guess I'm done with my diatribe. I'm going to go clean up my cat's creativity now. See you out there! - Ang
