I, like half of Pennsylvania, had the opportunity to see TheWho Monday night. (Thank you Suzanne, Gary, Brian, and the rest of the crew...) I honestly have rarely seen so much energy and honest to goodness classic rock n roll in a show that large. When the song about rain (I should be shot for not owning a single Who album...it will be remedied soon.) was played, I stood in disbelief that the heavens didn't relent and offer up torrential rain just to appease the shear emotion pouring out of the stadium.

I'm going to crawl back into my regularly scheduled bubble of a world that I like to call Local Music... I suppose I will have to swallow my pride now, and admit that a big-ticket band can still rock my world. Kudos to the "Oh-my-god he's still hot" Roger Daltrey, and the indominable 57 year old guitarists' guitarist, Pete "%*@! off!" Towsend for an experience I'll be relaying to my grandchildren at their age.

In other news....
My most recent obsession has been watching Jack Dillman (http://www.jackdillman.com) gaining popularity, and finally being recognized as the incredible musician that he is. If you like the Dave Matthews, David Gray, and John Mayer style of acoustic guitar and vocals, Jack's your man to see. There's something very personal and endearing about his music that, at times, can bring a tear to my eye or a smile to an otherwise dreary world. I've posted a little bio sheet. I've decided to make him my Featured Artist of an undetermined length of time (I change those whenever it strikes my fancy and I've got the time to write one up.)

Also posted are photos from the Negative Space CD Release party that had people lined up nearly all the way down the block and around the corner at the Chameleon club on June 27th. I did a little dance when I actually finished going through them. I think they were worth it, though.

Look for more reviews to be posted in the near future as well. Seems as though people want to hear opinions, and I'm more than ready to allow this site to be a forum for them. Please feel free to post your own opinions about shows you've been to in the Message Board. I love when people share them with everyone! Discussion is part of what makes a bunch of people looking in the same place a community rather than just people surfing the net.

There will be a slight focus change for TheLab in the near future as well. So far, I have concentrated my efforts on showing the local area that there really is a force to be reconned with in the music scene around here. I'm beginning to see the bands that opened my eyes begin to ride away to other states to follow their dreams. I feel it's time to start working more behind the scenes to build the relationships needed to help musicians get going and find their place outside of the local scene, as much as my selfish nature wants to coddle the bands here at home in the local music bassinet. Keep watching and you should see, if I am doing things right, a lot of your next door neighbors heading off to New York or California...or even Europe to spread their music as far as the globe will allow. I plan on making my dream happen.... and my dream is that the dreams of the underrated bands I come in contact with come true.

I'd also like to state my opinion right here that things like this should be done with a large degree of respect and class. I will never allow this site to become a catch-all for things unrelated to the advancement of arts and culture.

I once saw a woman speak about how creativity is the one thing that every human being has been blessed with. She spoke about how it's not just music, photography, theatre, drawing, sculpture, etc. It can be creativity in anything that a person does. It could be that you're an accountant who has found a more efficient way to balance the books. It could be that you're a landscaper who found that angling the blade of a lawn mower provides a better cut on the grass. It could be that you've found adding two soaps together creates a longer-lasting bubble. It doesn't really matter where that creativity lies... As long as you begin to see and appreciate it as creativity, life will become just a little less dull, and a little more worth living day to day.

I guess I'm done with my diatribe. I'm going to go clean up the creativity my son had while writing A's and X's on the wall with a red marker. See you out there! - Ang
